30 days of Praying for My Child

Day 10: Praying for My Son

Standing Firm in the Face of Adversity

Psalm 119:41-48

May your unfailing love come to me, Lord,     your salvation, according to your promise; then I can answer anyone who taunts me,     for I trust in your word. Never take your word of truth from my mouth,     for I have put my hope in your laws. I will always obey your law,     for ever and ever.

I will walk about in freedom,     for I have sought out your precepts. I will speak of your statutes before kings     and will not be put to shame, for I delight in your commands     because I love them. I reach out for your commands, which I love,     that I may meditate on your decrees.

Unfortunately, I missed a few days of posting about praying for my son!  So sorry!  I injured my back really badly doing laundry….lesson learned – no more laundry!  HA!  Actually, I had been overdoing it at the gym, and I think the laundry basket was the chore that broke the mamma’s back…see what I did there?

The verse above is definitely my prayer for my son today.  I have seen and heard so many things making fun of Christianity, making fun of Christians, and making fun of God’s Word.  People are trying to twist God’s Word to make some of their lifestyle choices OK…which is so very dangerous.  They mock and make fun of Christians, which is simply sad.  However, we as Christians should not be surprised at this!  We are told over and over in the Bible that we will face it, and that we should feel honored to stand up for Jesus in the face of this adversity.

So, this is my prayer for my son:

Lord, please always fill my son and cover him with Your love, Your salvation and Your Word.  Let him rest and rely on it, Lord, even when others are mocking his beliefs.  I know he will face this, Lord, but let him not be swayed – help him to hold fast to You.

Lord, let my son know Your Word so well that he has an answer for any question, and a verse to help him through any situation.

Let him realize, early in life, that following Your precepts is true freedom.  You know it took me far too long to realize that, Lord – let him figure it out much, much sooner than I did.  Let him pray to You and read Your Word every day.  And stand with him when he stands before others to tell of Your great love and Holiness.  Give him courage in the face of others, and let him always draw his joy from You.

In Jesus’ name…Amen.
