Your Maker is Your Husband

There are few Bible verses that have meant more to me in my life as a single mother.  Isaiah 54 was not written for the single parent or mother, but it was written as God showing his mercy, grace, love, protection, provision, and favor for His people. While it may not have been specifically written for us, I know they say He allowed me to read it, it was written there for me, at that moment in time.

Here is the link to the entire verse: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Isaiah%2054

But, for today, I want to focus just on these few lines:

For your Maker is your husband—
the Lord Almighty is his name—
the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer;
he is called the God of all the earth.

The first time I read this, it literally brought me to my knees.  As a single mother for so many years (since my son was 18 months – he is now 17) this floored me.  I did not have a husband – there was no one there to talk to about the good and bad parts of parenting and of life.  There was no one there to help make financial decisions.  There was no other income.  There was no one to mow the grass or fix the leak.  There was no one to remind me to change my oil or my tires.  There was no partner when I was just too tired and someone had to stay up to help with that forgotten project due the next day.

If you are a single parent, you understand.  You do it all – and you do it alone.  It is exhausting and lonely, at best.  It is terrifying and debilitating, at worst.

However, when I came upon this verse, I was just coming off of a great Beth Moore Bible Study – Believing God – it literally changed my faith.  So, I was at a place that I really WAS believing God – I was taking His word for what it said!  So, when I read that He is my husband, and I read the entire verse, I literally went down on the floor in my kitchen, in tears, praising Him for sending me that word!

And, don’t ya know, I have been taking Him at this word!  I have prayed, many times, “Lord, you said you are my husband – and I am having a very hard time making ends meet.  Husbands protect and provide for their families, please show me what a wonderful husband you are.”

I have prayed this when I am having trouble with my son – he is a really hood boy – but no one is perfect.  So, I pray that God, being my good and perfect husband, would have a man to man talk with my son.

In all honestly, God has never failed me when I pray this.  He has shown himself faithful every time! I do not think there is any magic bullet to praying.  But, I do know that when I am praying in His word, I am praying in His will.

This is a very simplistic view of a very deep verse, and over the next few weeks, we will talk about it further.  However, I know there are a lot of single mothers out there who need to know that God has specifically called himself our HUSBAND.  He did not put any parameters on it, either.  As a matter of fact, as we go deeper into the chapter, we will see that he makes it even bigger than we would expect!

For this small verse, though, he makes it clear – He IS our husband.  He Is God of all the Earth.  He Is our redeemer.  The Lord Almighty is His name!

What a blessed assurance! Have you allowed Him to be the husband in your life?  Have you told Him you depend on Him, your husband, to provide for you and your family?  Do you talk with Him about your day, about your concerns, about your children, just as you would with a husband?

Single mothers, it is time to realize that we do have a Husband – the God of all the universe.  Hallelujah!

He tells us to give praise, in all things.  He has given us a reason to praise in our single motherness – let’s praise and worship Him – our Holy Husband – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXDGE_lRI0E
